She Beat Me with a Kettlebell
At five foot four and a hundred and ten pounds, she thought she could whup my azz.
She being my good friend Vanessa who, along with her multi-talented husband Garin, are Las Vegas performers with a show that ranks right up there with the top acts in Vegas.
Vanessa and her husband are fitness fanatics; he’s fifty years old, looks like he’s forty and his arms are as big around as my legs.
She’s gorgeous and b-u-f-f. When she walks it’s like watching a leopard slowly traipsing across a meadow; sleek muscles rippling gently beneath the surface of her skin, every movement smooth like butter.
Men want her and women want to be her. That’s how buffed she is.
Both Vanessa and Garin have some out-of-this-world workout programs that I’ll tell you about later, but before I do, let me tell you how Vanessa tried to kick my azz.
We were all working on a project together last week. I had driven into Las Vegas that morning and we started working as soon as I got there.
We banged through the work and finished up around 5:30 pm or so. Back at their house, I was sitting at the kitchen table and the Energizer Bunny had left the building – and taken my energy with it.
I was already fighting some crapola off that I had picked up traveling; I had been up since oh-dark-thirty, driving for what seemed like forever and then worked all day. I was sukking wind.
Vanessa, God Bless Her, noticed I was whupped and decided it was time for a workout. Like me, she believes that when you’re energy is low, you need to get up and get moving.
She dragged me off my azz and told me to get some workout clothes on and meet her upstairs in the home gym.
Wanting to show her just who was in charge…I went upstairs and changed.
All three of us met in the home gym and she started to teach me how to workout with kettle bells.
If you’re not familiar with them, it’s like a cannonball with a handle. You can work out with them with one hand or two, and there are tons of exercises you can do that attack your body from all different types of angles.
This makes working out with them much more effective then weights as you are doing all different sorts of movements, all working all the muscles of your body together.
We started off holding the bells between the legs and squatting and then progressively moved to harder and harder exercises – to the point where we were all soaked in sweat with our tongues hanging out from all the huffin’ and puffin’.
When we got done, Vanessa and Garin both told me that I did a good job for my first time with kettle bells. Then they told me that they gave me a big kettle bell to start – the same one Garin works with all the time.
What a dirty trick – he’s twice my size.
Privately, I was pleased. It had been a tough workout, but I had an advantage that I never told them.
I was a power lifter in the Marines, so many of the movements from power lifting translated to these kettle bells.
But the real surprise up my sleeve was the strength building exercises and principles that were in the Shaolin Secrets Volume I: Shaolin Feats of Martial Arts – http://www.shaolinsecrets.com.
Kettle bells have been around a long time, but the Chinese stone locks have been around forever – and the principles for training with them are contained in Shaolin Secrets Volume I: Shaolin Feats of Martial Arts.
The Shaolin Monks have been training world-class warriors for thousands of years – all without a Stairmaster or Bowflex machine. They have been figuring out how to use their bodies in interesting and challenging workouts for centuries – so while kettle bells are a great workout, it’s the principles behind the workouts that count.
And you can learn about those in the Shaolin Secrets Volume I: Shaolin Feats of Martial Arts, at http://www.shaolinsecrets.com.
Best,
William Huff
P.S. – Vanessa making me workout gave me a ton of energy, which carried me through the next coupe of days. Get your burst of energy on demand with some of the workouts contained in the Shaolin Secrets at http://www.shaolinsecrets.com.
